Johannesburg Holocast and Genocide Center
The concept is to make JHGC the hub for students to go to and receive these contemporary themes understanding and have a reference from the museum to show the employer. Hoping that the increase in youth interest brings companies/ employers to have open discussions about the business world and morality in partnership with the centre.
My visual identity aims to showcase the contemporary themes taught at JHGC and how the initial lesson learnt, has now been cultivated for a young audience
My findings show that The Johannesburg Genocide and Holocaust Centre (JHGC) is heavily focused on education, discussions and remembrance. This is evidenced by education programs/ workshops available for educators and students, having international speakers and victims come to share their stories and producing reports and publications on topics such as morality, conscious thinking and symbiotics. It is imperative not to recreate the wheel with a place such as the JHGC, methods are already established that makes the topic easy to convey, and these findings will be extracted to create a bubble that positions JHGC at the top of education centres. The research gathered for Project 4 should flow into the execution of this project now (JHGC_Project4, 2023).
The goal should be extracted from the insights, these insights were:
• International presence and partnerships for JHGC education webinars make them internationally recognised this is important because it adds a layer of trust and validity to what the JHGC produces.
• Weekly physical and online workshops allow JHGC to make issues of injustice to be an everyday concern that should not be treated as events but as ongoing conversations.
With these insights in mind, one can see that the direction I’ll be following is education. Although JHGC already has education programs, those don’t leave an imprint on the Target Audience (Students ending their degrees – that require correct moral choices, and understanding of the consequences of hate speech and discrimination – in Tertiary Education in Johannesburg, who are entering the workforce within a year) I have in mind. The primary research backs this thought with many people not remembering their school outings to the centre or what they learnt from the workshops attended. For these reasons, the new positioning statement puts JHGC as a pillar of education on contemporary topics for the new workforce that is made up of tertiary education students.
The new message: JHGC would tackle topics such as morality, conscious thinking and human rights issues, and train people to learn job-ready skills
related to those topics launching students’ careers by enhancing their resumes. JHGC Certificates would make students capable of having a just moral compass and understanding the consequences of prejudice, discrimination and othering.
The new positioning statement: Because of their huge catalogue of resources about past transgressions, access to victims and well-known international speakers (jhbholocaust, 2023), the Johannesburg Genocide and Holocaust Center (JHGC) is primed to become the pillar of contemporary themes education throughout the year. Students and newer work generations can take classes that the JHGC provides to add into their portfolios. This project aims to position JHGC as the education hub in populated capitals for the new workforce to haveabetter moral compass and conscious thinking in their fields. It’s important for brands/ employers to hire JHGC Certificate-holding people to keep a positive company reputation and to maintain a good company culture Revising the work done in Project 4, my insights have been expanded, creating a snowball effect on my new positioning statement and message. The insights highlight the validity of the JHGC publications due to their access to sources and the constant stream of content due to their weekly workshops and programs. Keeping all these new expanded points in mind, the new positioning statement and insights produce a more refined and strategic message. This new message will be used as a foundation for the concept ideation process and for the whole project.
I think that I could’ve improved the website and came up with a completely new extension that could be part of the JHGC family but be its own entity. Of course it would still have information and journals provided by JHGC but it could’ve been made so that the entity eventually becomes a recognized place of education that universities outsource
